The Advanced Writers Lab of the New Opera & Musical Theater Initiative is accepting applications for its 2011-2012 cycle.
The Advanced Writers Lab is a peer feedback group open to a limited number of experienced bookwriters, composers and lyricists working actively on a musical theater project. Our mission is to support each other in creating high-quality new works.
10-12 projects will be selected for the 2011-2012 cycle, which begins in October, 2011.
The Advanced Writers Lab meets 11 times per year, from 10am to 4pm on the on the third Saturday of every month September through July. The Lab provides up to four singing actors per session to read members’ work, with some rehearsal time provided. Writers give and receive supportive, constructive feedback immediately following the presentations.
Collaborations are highly encouraged, as are new project proposals.
The deadline for application is August 29, 2011. All applications are requested by e-mail. Applications will be reviewed by AWL facilitators as well as by outside adjudicators.

Programs
In 2011-2012, NOMTI is offering the following programs and services for musical theater writers:
(1) Musical Theater Writing Seminar is an intensive two-day instructional seminar covering the most critical elements of writing for musical theater. This is open to writers at all levels and is recommended for writers planning to apply to the Advanced Writers Lab. The date for 2011-12 has not been set. In the past, this event has taken place in early November or late March. More details here.
(2) Advanced Writers Lab is a peer feedback group open to a limited number of experienced bookwriters, composers and lyricists working actively on a project. The application period for the 2011-2012 Lab is open now through August 29, 2011. More information, here.
(3) NOMTI-Greenroom is NOMTI's yahoo group, providing online community and educational resources. It is open to New England musical theater writers of all levels. Please email admissions "at" nomti.org if you would like to participate, as it is by invitation only. Members share opportunities, information and insights related to writing for musical theater. We also post NOMTI-developed resources in the files section.
(4) Staged Readings: NOMTI occasionally sponsors public staged readings of new work.
The evening workshop that met for several years was discontinued after May 2007.
